Nicole Perri

Principal Architect, Owner

Nicole Perri is originally from the foothills and lake region of New Jersey and grew up in the woods and creeks exploring and creating worlds. After considering careers in Art and Music, Nicole felt called to Architecture and attended Clemson University where she received a BS and a MA in Architecture. For her thesis “The Practice and the Art of the Everyday” she was awarded the Harlem McClure Award for Outstanding Design. She studied in Italy at the Daniel Center on the Genova’s Mediterranean Coast designing modern concepts for medieval villas and streets.

Nicole has been registered in the state of North Carolina for 20 years. She has worked for firms in both Charlotte and Boston on projects ranging from Luxury Urban Condos, Dormitories, College libraries, and Affordable Housing Projects. She worked for the award-winning firm Leers Weinzapfel in Boston with projects at Phillips Exeter, Smith College, and The Library Sciences Building at Harvard. In Charlotte, she worked for LS3P and FMK Architects on projects ranging from adaptive reuse & urban infill to affordable and luxury housing.
Nicole taught Architecture studio and seminar at UNC Charlotte’s College of Architecture, is a past Board member of the Clemson Architectural Foundation, and currently serves on the Town of Davidson’s Architectural and Historical Review Boards.

Nicole’s practice focuses on Custom Residential Architecture, Adaptive Re-Use, Civic, and Small Commercial Architecture, as well as regional Affordable Housing Initiatives. She believes in biophilic design and the innate connection humans have to nature and light. She crafts designs to enrich the spirit and health and strives to build identity, connection, memory, and light into each unique proposal. Click here to view her current work.

Nicole has contemplated home design and the art of the everyday for a career spanning 30 years and continues to see designing peaceful dwelling places as an authentic and worthwhile endeavor. In her precious free time she is an Artist, Potter, Gardener, Hiker, Wife, and Mother of three plus two Blue Weimaraners.

Kim Pouland

Project Architect

22+ years of experience


Kim’s journey to architecture started at a young age with a keen awareness of space and how individuals interact with their surroundings.

After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and Environmental Design from North Carolina State University, she made her way west to Arizona and Hawaii where she specialized in high-end custom residential, working her way up to Design Partner at a national award-winning firm. 

Now back in her home state, she brings a diversity of knowledge and design expertise to Nicole Perri Architecture. 

In her free time Kim enjoys traveling the world, hiking with her fiancé and dog Shadow, and laughing on the beach with life-long friends.

Mary Helen Black

Project Manager

Masters of Architecture & Preservation Studies from Tulane University

Mary Helen Black is a designer in the field of architecture and a historic preservation consultant.

With a Masters of Architecture and a Masters of Preservation Studies from Tulane University, Mary Helen specializes in considering historic fabric, precedent, and the lifespan of a building in the design process. With a background in Historic Building Information Modeling (HBIM) software and prioritizing analog and digital documentation equally, her methodology is centered around developing advanced visualization of historic structures for archival and development purposes.

In her free time, Mary Helen enjoys needlepointing and hiking with her husband and puppy.
